Brothers accused of pushing Linden boat caption overboard freed of murder charge
Brian Hermanstyne and Elden Hermanstyne, who were accused of pushing a boat captain overboard in 2022, resulting in his death, have been freed of a murder charge.
Brian and Elden, who are brothers of Red Crescent Road, Mackenzie, were on trial before High Court Judge Jo-Ann Barlow. The men were accused of pushing Linden’s boat captain, Elick Alexander, overboard.
At the conclusion of the trial, Justice Barlow found that no case was made against the brothers and directed a formal verdict of not guilty.
MTV News Update reported that on November 19, 2022, Alexander, who operated a boat from Wismar to the Mackenzie shore, was waiting on passengers when the brothers boarded the vessel.
While the boat was about 40 feet off the Wismar shore, Police had said that Alexander was “pushed out” of the boat and submerged under the water. The body of the captain was recovered the following day.
