$750,000 bail for man who killed Berbice businessman

L-R: Charged: Dave Singh and Vickram Seubarran

Dave Singh, who is accused of killing 53-year-old Vickram Seubarran, was on Friday released on $750,000 bail.

Singh, also known as “Boy” of Betsy Ground, East Canje, was arraigned before Magistrate Renita Singh in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

The charge against Singh is that between July 31, 2022, and August 1, 2022, at No. 2 Village, East Canje Berbice, he unlawfully killed Vickram Seubarran, called ‘Vick.’

Attorney-at-Law Mercaline Bacchus is representing the accused, and the matter was adjourned to September 13.

As a condition for bail, Singh would have to report to the Central Police Station at 15:00h every other Friday until the hearing and determination of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI).

On August 1, Seubarran was found motionless in a pool of blood with a knife stuck in his back at his No. 2 Village, East Canje Berbice’s home.

The discovery was made at about 6:00h by the deceased’s cousin, who was tasked with cleaning his home.

Seubarran resides by himself and is said to be the proprietor of the Universal DVD Club in New Amsterdam.

The deceased’s brother, Dean Seubarran, had related that he was visiting his brother when he saw his cousin rushing out of the yard screaming.

He said that after calming down his cousin, he was told that his brother was in the house with an injury on his body.

Mere hours after the killing, Singh was arrested, and he reportedly told investigators that he and Seubarran shared a sexual relationship.

He said he visited the man’s home, where they consumed alcohol and engaged in sexual intercourse.

He stated he was about to leave but was prevented by Seubarran. This led to an argument, and it was then that he stabbed the victim and left.
