Work advancing on new 'Single Window System'; tender to be out soon for IT platform - Croal

The Ministry of Housing and Water is advancing work on the new Single Window Electronic Processing system which will streamline the application process when doing business in Guyana.

Subject Minister Collin Croal in an interview with News Update said very soon there will be a tendering process for a platform to facilitate the single window system.

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal.

"Shortly, one can expect the tendering process for a platform that is for the IT aspect to start introducing that. So that is when you’re going and applying, so that will be out," he said.

When a person is applying for a permit to construct buildings, they would have to go through a process that involves the NDCs, municipalities, the Guyana Fire Service, Central Housing and Planning Authority, and Environmental Protection Agency before they can start construction. However, this can be time-consuming and cause delays.

The new single-window system is expected to ease the inconsistency caused by the current paper-based system.

Minister Croal said applicants can apply from anywhere in the world and they can know the status of their application once the system comes on stream in Guyana.

“It’s a platform, then it goes through a system then it sent onwards to the various agencies, they will be time-bound for a response and if they’re unable to respond by that time then it will be deemed as having a no-objection or deemed you’re in approval of the request.”

Works are also advancing on the legislation that will guide how this system will be rolled out.

“It’s a lot of work, it is making a drastic change in the way we do business but this is what we want to as a Government, is to make life easier and consistent.”
