West Indies will face host country New Zealand on March 4 in the opening match of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup New Zealand 2022 which runs until April 3.

In the eight-team tournament, the West Indies Women will start their campaign with two warm-up matches against Australia and India on February 29 and March 1.

As the team seeks consistency heading into the World Cup, the mix of young up-and-coming stars with the more experienced senior players will benefit the West Indies.

West Indies Women's captain Stafanie Taylor said,

“Well, most of the players here are pretty experienced. When you look at the group I think the youngsters just need to take whatever advice from the experienced players.”

The squad features senior stars such as Skipper Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews and Guyanese Shemaine Campbell.

Other Guyanese in the squad include Cherry Ann Fraser and Mandy Mangru who is there as a travelling reserve.

“And you know, at the end of the day when you look at the team a lot of us are getting older. So it would be nice to integrate those youngsters so they can get that experience and I think that’s what we want.”

Taylor added.

The West Indies Women competed in the finals once in 2013, but since then have not made it to the semi-finals.

“I think for us it’s more trying to be consistent as best as we can in the 50-over format. We know it’s not always the best for us and I think we’re making strides and for us it’s more about improving every time and getting better at that. So not to look too far ahead, just try to take each game step-by-step.”

She said.
