‘Triggerman’ admits to murdering city businessman in 2017

L-R: Godfrey Scipio and Aubrey Bobb

Aubrey Bobb, called ‘Triggerman’ on Monday, admitted to murdering city businessman Godfrey Scipio, also known as “Saga,” during the course of a robbery in 2017.

Bobb of Kitty, Georgetown, appeared before Judge Jo-Ann Barlow in the Demerara High Court and admitted that on October 12, 2017, at David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he murdered 58-year-old Scipio during the course/furtherance of a robbery.

Justice Barlow has set September 26, 2022, for sentencing, following the reading of a probation report.

State Counsels Marisa Edwards, Simran Gajraj, and Latifiah Elliot are representing the prosecution, while Attorney-at-Law Teriq Mohammed is representing Bobb.

Media reports are that on October 12, 2017, at about 18:00h, Scipio was shot to the chest after leaving a city hotel with a female companion. He was relieved of his jewellery.

He later succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment at the Woodlands Hospital.

A day later, Bobb was arrested after Police managed to review CCTV footage from the area. He implicated Police Corporal Derwin Eastman in the crime, saying that he supplied him with the gun to shoot Scipio.

Corporal Eastman, a former ‘Best Cop’ for Police ‘A’ Division, is currently on remand awaiting trial at the Demerara High Court.

Former Police Constable Jameson Williams was also charged with the businessman’s murder but was freed after a Magistrate found that there was insufficient evidence to commit him to stand trial in the High Court.
