"This is the worst test a mother can ever endure" – Pres. Ali over deadly Barnwell fire

President Irfaan Ali on Thursday said that the worst test a mother can ever endure is losing her children.


The Head of State made these comments after consoling Tracy Flue, who lost her three children in an early morning fire at Barnwell, aback Mocha, East Bank Demerara (EBD).


President Ali told the family that the country mourns with them while adding that the loss of the young lives is a loss for the country.


"None of us can understand what that mother is going through, or that family is going through…This is the worst test a mother can ever endure…The most we can do is uplift them in prayers, uplift them in faith, and to pray that they are given the patience needed," the Head of State posited.

Reports are that the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) received a call at about 01:25h on Thursday and was informed of a fire at 10 Field Barnwell, Mocha, EBD.

Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene, but due to the deplorable state of the road, the men were forced to go to the location on foot. By this time, the one-storey wooden building was engulfed in flames.


As a result, Timothy Kippins,8, Trayshaw Kippins,6, and Zhlia Flue,1, perished. The GFS has already ruled out that the fire's origin was electrical.
