Teen secures bail on narcotics possession charge
Nineteen-year-old Shaniya Goddette, who was busted with 36 grams of marijuana at the Bartica Stelling, was today slapped with a narcotics possession charge.
Goddette, who is a cook from New Amsterdam, Berbice, was hauled before Magistrate Crystal Lambert in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
The charge states that on May 18, 2022, at Bartica Stelling, she had 36 grams of marijuana in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Magistrate Lambert granted the teen bail in the sum of $40,000, and the matter was adjourned until June 10, 2022.
MTV News Update previously reported that a party of police ranks from Bartica Police Station was conducting searches on incoming passengers at the Bartica Stelling when Goddette was searched.
A transparent plastic with a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis was found during the search. The teen was told of the offence committed, cautioned, and arrested. She admitted ownership of the cannabis, saying it was for her personal use.
