Sport Minister delivers basketball hoops for Buxton, East Coast youths

Residents were given the opportunity on Monday to voice their concerns so that they can be resolved by government ministers and technical personnel on the ground. The issues ranged from housing, infrastructure, and sports and youth development in the community.

One representative called on the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Charles Ramson Jnr, to have the Buxton Community Ground upgraded and stressed the need for basketball hoops and gears for the youths of Buxton and the East Coast in general. "Buxton and the entire East Coast has great talent but it can only be developed if we have the facilities [...] there is literally no active basketball team other than Plaisance Guardians on the East Coast. So I'm asking if you can have this court upgraded probably other courts on the East Coast that would definitely boost basketball," the representative said. In light of these concerns raised, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Charles Ramson Junior made a commitment to deliver hoops to benefit around 100 basketball players on the East Coast on Monday. "Today, just to show you we mean business, today I'm gonna give you that commitment that within 30 minutes, those hoops are going to be here," the Sports Minister announced where he was met with loud round of applauses from the residents. According to the Sports Minister, the President Ali led government is not about 'gaff' but about 'action' and delivering to the people of the country. As such, the hoops that were donated will be installed within two weeks, the Sports Minister assurred. "In order to put up these hoops they have to be casted in the ground and such, so within two weeks, our team at the ministry and your team of basketball players are gonna work on a community programme where we're gonna install these hoops together."

A lawn mower was also donated for maintenance of the community field.
