Sophia man gets 18 years in jail for raping 15-year-old
A 36-year-old labourer was on Tuesday sentenced to 18 years behind bars for raping a 15-year-old girl back in 2018.
Aduke Josiah, of Plum Park, Sophia, Greater Georgetown was on trial before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the Demerara High Court.
Last month, Josiah was found guilty of by a 12-member jury for engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16. The incident occurred on August 8, 2018 in the county of Demerara.
According to information, on the day in question, the teen was home alone when Josiah forced his way into her room and raped her.
The girl later told her parents what transpired and a report was made to the Police. The convicted child rapist was subsequently arrested and charged.
