35-year-old Rosetta Luke, a mother of five, is among several participants undergoing HVACR training in Linden Region 10.

HVACR stands for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers, often called HVACR technicians. It focuses on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems that control the temperature and air quality in buildings.

The single mother, who spoke with MTV News Update on Wednesday, said she was not doing anything at home before she got the opportunity. And now, she is grateful for the opportunity to broaden her skill sets.

“Well, it’s gonna help me want to go and advance myself like in this field, to do better because rather than just sitting at home doing nothing, I can be equipped and certified and go out there and do better.”

The single mother is excited about graduation since the programme will help her financially. Her son is also enrolled in the training programme.

“I want to thank God, and I want to thank the government for doing this for us because I am a single parent, and I really appreciate this because there’s a lot of unemployed people around, so this is gonna help provide employment,” she said.

MTV also spoke to 20-year-old Sherwinton Fraser, who said the experience has been great. He also expressed his gratitude for the programme, which is going to help him get a job that pays well.

“I actually thank them for doing this programme for us because I did not have a chance to get jobs because everyone with certificates and such keep taking up all the jobs. So now I’ll have my own certificate, I can get a job freely.”

Fraser is encouraging the youths of Linden to make use of the opportunities that are available by BIT.

“I would say to them that they should come and join because it’s a big programme; it will help them better themselves and be a better person later in the future.”

Meanwhile, Florence Fredericks told MTV she is excited about graduation and her certificate.

Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton conducted a two-day visit to the mining town where he inspected several training programmes.

179 Lindeners are currently participating in these programmes, and there has been an increasing amount of females interested.
