Sheriff Street vendors, caravans to face daytime removal – MoPW

The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) has announced a strict daytime clearance policy for Sheriff Street, warning that all trucks, caravans, and stalls must be removed from the area between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry said the move is aimed at keeping the busy thoroughfare safe and accessible during peak hours, while acknowledging Sheriff Street’s important role in supporting economic activity and the wider community.

According to the ministry, vending will be permitted only outside the restricted hours. It also made clear that any encumbrances found on the roadway, road shoulders, reserves, or pedestrian pathways during the 6:00 am to 6:00 pm period will be removed to maintain public order.

The ministry said the restriction applies from “property line to property line” on both sides of the road, meaning no stalls or caravans should occupy the road shoulders or reserves during the day.

It further explained that caravans located behind the sidewalk must still be removed if they fall within the restricted zone. Likewise, if a caravan is positioned against a person’s fence facing the road, the establishment will be required to remove it on a daily basis.

The ministry is urging full cooperation from vendors and business operators, saying the measures are necessary to ensure smoother traffic flow and safer use of the area for motorists and pedestrians.

Officials also advised that anyone with concerns about the demarcation should note that the clearance requirement covers the full span between property lines during the stated hours.
