Having played under Hayley Matthew’s Captaincy in the recent 6ixty and ongoing Women’s CPL, Shakera Selman is confident Matthews will do well in her new role leading the West Indies.

Hayley Matthews has taken over as captain of the West Indies women’s side from Stafanie Taylor, who was at the helm for seven years.

Shakera Selman expressed confidence in new West Indies Captain Hayley Mathews ahead of the series against New Zealand, noting that she would have done well leading the Barbados Royals to victory in the 6ixty.

“I think both this competition and Commonwealth Games will do well for Hayley, for her confidence as captain, obviously that you said, she’s captaining me and Barbados team for a couple of years at the regional tournament, but it’s quite different captain at the international level, a bit more pressure, a bit more expectation on her, so it would do well for her. I think it’s really good that we were able to win the 6ixty.”

All-rounder Hayley Matthews lead her Barbados Royals team to win the inaugural season of THE 6IXTY. Matthews’ Barbados Royals team is tackling the women’s CPL from one inaugural season to the next.

Matthews was recently appointed as the new West Indies women’s captain but began her captaincy journey by leading Team Barbados at the Commonwealth Games.

Amazon Warriors Rashada Williams and Barbados Royals Shakera Selman noted that the 6IXTY and the just started Inaugural women’s CPL are incredible for the advancement of the women’s game, and they hope this will remain consistent.

Rashada Williams said, “I mean, it’s a new, it’s a new competition, so everything is here to enjoy from the pitch you’re about to the dressing room of the different teams, the vibe, the entertainment, everything is really amazing.”

Shakera Selman said, “Yeah, and adding to what Rashada said; it’s not just the fans supporting the team now you’re seeing so many fans who are familiar with you as if you’re so it’s really good to hear fans calling everyone’s name asking to take pictures and send it to meet you. I was like […]. I think for me, that’s the biggest thing alongside rubbing shoulders with international players and just being here with the men.”

West Indies Women will host New Zealand Women for the first time in nearly a decade when the two teams meet in three One-Day Internationals and five Twenty20 Internationals starting in September.
