Security guard charged, remanded over Rose Hall double murder
More than a year after the brutal murder of 31-year-old Melissa Arokium and her eight-year-old son Anthony Arokium, her cousin was on Tuesday remanded over the heinous crime.
Qunicy Hooper, called ‘Red Man,’ a 33-year-old security guard, was hauled before the Albion Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded until October 04, 2024.
On August 24, 2023, Melissa and her son were discovered by her youngest brother inside her home at Rose Hall with gapping chop wounds to their heads, faces, and upper part of their bodies.
Anthony was found on the bed in the bedroom, face up, while Melissa was found face down with wounds to the back of her neck.
Following the brutal killings, Hooper, a former Guyana Defence Force Officer, was among the persons arrested. He was accused of breaking into the dead woman’s house and was even charged with threatening behaviour.
