Security guard arraigned for murder of ex-girlfriend’s twin sister

L-R: Ashanti Liverpool and Stephan Hope

Stephan Hope, who is accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend’s twin sister, has been handed a murder charge and remanded to prison.

Hope, a 31-year-old security officer of Haslington, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was hauled before Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on March 19, 2024, he murdered Ashanti Liverpool, 24. He was remanded to prison.

However, on the day in question, the defendant went to Ishanti’s residence and saw her sitting inside a car parked in front of her house.

As such, he left and went to the Hong Kong Chinese Supermarket located at Good Hope, where he met his co-worker, a 23-year-old security officer, who at the time was armed with an AR-15 Rifle and eight live rounds of ammunition.

Hope reportedly told the security officer that the supervisor had sent him to collect the rifle. The security officer claimed he made several calls to his Supervisor via cellphone, which went unanswered.

As a result, Hope collected the firearm with the ammunition and went away. He returned to Ishanti’s residence but, this time met Ashanti, who was in her bed. He asked about her sister’s whereabouts, who had left the house a short while before he arrived.

Ashanti ran outside, where she made her way out of the yard and started heading east along the access road when the accused allegedly opened fire at her with the rifle.

The 24-year-old woman continued running and collapsed in a nearby yard. The accused then went onto his motorcycle and left the scene. He attempted suicide but was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was treated.
