Rice farmer killed in 3-vehicle Mahaicony accident; 19-year-old driver arrested
A 25-year-old rice farmer died on Thursday following a three-vehicle accident on the Bushy Park Public Road at Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is Eshwar Arjune of Quaker Hall, Mahaicony, ECD. The accident occurred at about 07:40 h.
The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) conveyed that Arjune was driving motor vehicle PCC 5219, which was proceeding east along the road in front of Toyota 4x4 beating registration number PJJ 8723, which was being steered by a 19-year-old.
According to the CCU, the 19-year-old collided with the rear of the motor car driven by Arjune, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. He then crashed into another motorcar, HD 2859, which was proceeding in the opposite direction.
As a result of the collision, the deceased and the driver of HD 2859, and his reputed wife received injuries about their bodies.
They were all picked up and transported to the Mahaicony Public Hospital, where the 25-year-old rice farmer was pronounced dead on arrival. The two others were seen by a doctor on duty.
The driver of the motor jeep was given a breathalyser test, which showed no alcohol in his system. He is in custody and assisting with the ongoing investigation.
