A 30-year-old Information Technology technician was arrested by police after a viral social media video allegedly showed him driving dangerously along the East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road in breach of the one-way system.
Police said the driver of motor car PAL 3206 was taken into custody on Monday, March 9, 2026, at about 10:00 hours at his residence in Martyrs Ville, Mon Repos.
Investigations were launched after a video surfaced on social media on Sunday, March 8, 2026, showing the vehicle being driven recklessly along the East Coast Demerara Public Road.
According to the police, the car was proceeding east along the southern carriageway from Beterverwagting Public Road towards Triumph Public Road when the driver allegedly drove in breach of the one-way system.
The dangerous manoeuvre reportedly forced several motorists to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The suspect is being held at the Beterverwagting Police Station pending charges for dangerous driving and a breach of a one-way.
Police said the man is expected to appear before the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, at 09:00hrs. Investigations are ongoing.
