Five men were on Wednesday sentenced over the murder of phone card vendor Danian Jagdeo, who was gunned down during a robbery in 2017.
Those sentenced by Justice Sandil Kissoon in the Berbice High Court are Mark Dhuman, Andre Azimullah, Abdul Zahir, Shannon Batson, and Satesh Budhram.
Dhuman and Azimullah received death sentences, while Zahir and Batson received life sentences. As for Budhram, he was sentenced to 17 years behind bars.
It was the prosecution’s case that the men, on February 8, 2017, at Adventure Village, Corentyne, Berbice, murdered Jagdeo during the course of a robbery.
Media reports are that Jagdeo was distributing phone cards when he was shot and killed.
The men reportedly relieved Jagdeo of a bag that contained an undisclosed sum of cash and a quantity of phone cards before escaping on a waiting motorcycle.
