President charges newly commissioned SOC, ROC, and Warrant Officers to be ‘dedicated and courageous’

President Irfaan Ali, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, on Friday presented instruments to the newly commissioned officers of Standard Officers’ Course No.53 and Reserve Officers Course No.17, as well as State Warrants to the Warrant Officers of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).

These officers were required to undergo a period of training. The presentation was done at the Baridi Benab, State House.

In remarks, President Ali charged the newly commissioned officers to set an example to the junior officers and also uphold the standards set out by their superiors. He also urged them to be ‘dedicated and courageous’ in executing their duties.

“I expect you to be dedicated and courageous; your example must shine forth like a beacon to inspire your peers and the men and women under your command. It must characterise your interactions as officers. It must speak to your character and to your value; good conduct will be a measure of your performance,” he said.

He also made it clear that under this position, it is critical for them to take responsibility and good care of those under their charge.

In closing, the Commander-in-Chief assured the officers that the administration would work diligently to improve their prospects to bring improvement to their families and those around them.

According to Regulation 22 of 1972 of the Guyana Defence Force, all officers and warrant officers are required to take the oath to bear the truth, faith, and allegiance to Guyana.

These instruments are the authorisation to act as Commission Officers and Warrant Officers.
