PI into shooting death of Quindon Bacchus set for next year

Murder accused Kristoff De Nobrega

The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the shooting death of 23-year-old Quindon Bacchus will commence on February 14, 2023.

When the matter was called today in the Cove and John Magistrates’ Court, Prosecutor Neville Jeffers made the disclosure in the case.

As such, Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore will preside over the PI, which involves Police Lance Corporal Kristoff De Nobrega.

During his first court appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on July 5, De Nobrega was slapped with a murder charge and was remanded to prison.

The murder accused is being represented by Attorney-at-Law Bernard Da Silva.

De Nobrega, along with Lance Corporal Thurston Simon, and Sergeant Dameion McLennon, were charged over the shooting death of Bacchus. McLennon and Simon were charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice.

Bacchus, a father of one, was shot on June 10 during what the Guyana Police Force (GPF) claimed was an intelligence-led operation at Haslington New Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

According to the Police, a 22-year-old construction worker who provided “certain information” led ranks to Bacchus, who allegedly possessed a firearm and was intended to sell it to one of the ranks.

While handing the firearm to the rank, the GPF claimed that Bacchus opened gunfire on De Nobrega, who shot him in the process. MTV News Update understands that the 23-year-old father was shot six times and once to the head.
