Persons not required to report covid selfkit status

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday approved the use and sale of self-testing covid 19 kits.

These test kits are being imported by private companies and pharmacies and determine someone's covid status in 15 minutes.

However questions have been raised as to how the Health Ministry will be monitoring self kit users and while responding to that, Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony said “it’s not compulsory that you report to us ".

However, he is advising persons to do so that they can "verify" their results.

Dr Anthony went on to highlight that he is hoping persons who

"are consciences enough to buy the kit and to test themselves to home and report to the surveillance department. "

However, the subject Minister made it clear that results from these kits would not be accepted when entering Guyana.

Persons who wish to enter Guyana are expected to be fully vaccinated and must produce a negative PCR or Antigen test taken within 72 hours.

Meanwhile, to date 429,643 or 83.8% of the adult population have received their first shot of a covid 19 vaccine while 323,662 or 63.1% are fully immunized.
