MIA MOTTLEY WINS SECOND TERM WITH LANDSLIDE

- “Guyana and Barbados will concretise cooperation” -President Ali

Mia Mottley will be sworn in as Prime Minister of Barbados for her second term after a landslide victory at the General Election held on the 19th January, last.

The Mia Mottley led Barbados Labour Party secured all 30 seats in the National legislation as compared to the 29 won in 2018.

Leader of the Opposition Democratic Labour Party Verla De Peirza has since accepted defeat.

Meanwhile, President Dr. Irfan Ali has extended congratulations to the Prime Minister.

Dr. Ali commended the Barbadian people on demonstrating their commitment to democracy.

The Head of State in his message says the reelection provides the opportunity to concretise the plans and programmes planned between the two countries.

Prime Minister Mottley called the snap election in December, saying it would help promote unity as the Government battled the coronavirus pandemic which has affected the economy tremendously.

This is the Caribbean island's first election after attaining its Republic status last year.
