Man on $350K bail for causing death of Mabaruma schoolgirl

L-R: Shane Rouse and Terensha Pierre

Two months after he allegedly struck down and killed a 9-year-old girl from Barima Nobo, Region One, Shane Rouse has been slapped with causing death by dangerous driving and driving an uncertified motor vehicle charges.

Rouse made an appearance via Zoom before Magistrate Clive Nurse in the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court.

He denied the first charge, which stated that on March 18, 2024, on the Philbert Pierre Avenue/Mabaruma Compound Public Road, he drove motor PXX 7767 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Terensha Pierre.

As for driving an uncertified motor vehicle, Rouse entered a guilty plea and was fined $30,000. As for the causing death by dangerous driving charge, he was granted $350,000 bail, and the case was adjourned to August 19, 2024, for trial.

Pierre, who was a Grade Five pupil of Hosororo Primary School, was allegedly struck down by the motorcar while crossing the road at Mabaruma Compound at about 15:30 h.

After she was struck, it was reported that the nine-year-old girl was run over by the car. She died while en route to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical treatment.
