Illegal bridge linking Eccles property to Haags Bosch Highway demolished

An unlawful bridge that provided access from a private property at Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD), to the Haags Bosch Four-Lane Highway was demolished on Sunday under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing’s Enforcement Department.

In a statement, the Ministry said the bridge, which connected property 1211 EE Eccles to the highway, was constructed without the necessary approval.

According to the Ministry, the property owner had previously been issued with a contravention notice and was cautioned to desist from the unlawful construction, but failed to comply with the directive.

It was also noted that the property owner had sought permission to operate a Chinese restaurant at the location. However, the request was not granted.

During a subsequent visit to the site, the owner agreed to remove the structure, and the demolition was carried out under the supervision of officers from the Ministry’s Enforcement Department.

The Ministry reiterated the importance of proper land use and adherence to planning regulations, reminding property owners that unauthorised structures and illegal access points to public roadways will not be permitted.
