GWI owed more than $3Bn in arrears

During a news conference on Friday Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Water Incorporated Shaik Baksh told media operatives that the utility company is owed over $3Bn in arrears from delinquent customers.

He said getting customers to pay their water bills continues to be a challenge for the utility company. "In some communities, there is an unwillingness to pay for the water service, that is a big challenge for GWI so we are urging the customers out there to come forward and pay their bills to enable us to provide an improved level of service and better quality of service."


He said the utility company has been using several methods to ensure customers settle their payments.


"We have a disconnection programme in place and some we have had to take to Court also but we go there we have community meetings, a whole range a things, house to house calls all kinds a things to bring in the revenue" he stated.


Customers are urged to settle all outstanding payments at any GWI office or authorised payment agency countrywide.
