Guyana/Brazil joint working group to settle full implementation of Boa Vista/Gtown Road pact

- Within three months

President Dr. Irfaan held bilateral discussions with President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre where they focused on a number of areas of cooperation including infrastructure. A joint working group was established as a result of the meeting and they have been tasked with assessing the potential gains of a Boa Vista - Georgetown Road corridor with regards to trade and investment flows. As a result, the teams were instructed to settle, not later than the third quarter of 2022, the measures necessary to enable the full implementation of the Guyana-Brazil International Road Transportation Agreement. Identifying possible needs of technical assistance and potential private partners and international financial institutions that could contribute to the development of the Boa Vista - Georgetown road corridor was also discussed. According to a statement from the two Presidents, infrastructure integration will further unlock the potential of the two countries and the wider region. Additionally, they agreed to advance the process of implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in November 2020 for the Technical Feasibility Studies for the installation of a fibre optic link between Guyana and Brazil.
