Golden Grove, Dolphin register contrasting wins in Milo Tournament


There were contrasting wins for Golden Grove and Dolphin as the MILO schools football tournament continued on Thursday at the Ministry of Education ground.


In the first game of the afternoon, Buxton scored first against the Golden Grove unit through Omari Edwards in the 23rd minute only for Kellon Croal to level things up in the 29th


Croal would eventually give Golden Grove the lead in 34th minute and Shamar Walton in the 48th minute would stretch that advantage with the first half ending 3-1.


However, a sterling effort from Akandy Vanmalson (50th) and Ovid Brown (58th) wiped that deficit clean and levelled the scores once again; this time through to the final whistle.


But all that was in vain as the Golden Grove prevailed 4-2 on penalties.The other game was a one sided affair as Dolphin beat Charlestown 5-1.


Brian Burnett in the 15 th minute opened the scoring for the Dolphin side with Jaquan Cole (32 nd and 40th) and Gerry Bernette (47th and 64th) each scoring braces to seal the win.


Mickelle Andrews (58 th ) scored Charlestown’s consolation goal. Matches continue over the weekend with four encounters on Saturday and another four on Sunday.


From 12:30hrs, Carmel will play Christianburg while from 14:00hrs, West Ruimveldt takes on Marian Academy.


Uitvlugt plays Cummings Lodge from 15:30hrs with North Georgetown plays Canje at 17:00hrs


On Sunday, from 12:30hrs, Golden Grove gets the ball rolling against Annandale while Dolphin and New Central School clash from 14:00hrs.


Tucville battles Friendship from 15:30hrs with Lodge and President’s College closing off the proceedings.


All matches are being played at the Ministry of Education Ground.
