A 21-year-old fisherman, who is accused of killing his brother after he told him that he saw his girlfriend with another man, was on Tuesday remanded to prison.

Sunil Cook, called ‘Tall Man’ of Vergenoegen Squatting Area, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), was hauled before Magistrate Zamilla Alli-Seepaul in the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on October 14, 2022, he murdered Dave Cook.

He was remanded to prison, and the case was adjourned to December 1, 2022.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Dave was allegedly wounded on October 14 at about 22:50h.

A 38-year-old housewife had told investigators that she was among the brothers on the Vergenoegen Seawall when Dave told his brother that he saw his girlfriend with another man at Parika.

The suspect reportedly became annoyed, and an argument ensued between the brothers.

During the argument, the 21-year-old allegedly stabbed his brother in the lower abdomen, which caused him to fall to the ground.

The housewife added that she observed the suspect holding a knife in his hand, and the victim started to bleed profusely from his lower abdomen.

The fisherman allegedly fled the scene, and an alarm was raised, and the Police were summoned.

The victim was escorted to Leonora Cottage Hospital, where, on arrival, he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty.

He was later transferred to West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient in a critical condition.

However, Dave succumbed to his injuries on October 25, 2022, at 01:48h.
