The Victory Valley Basketball Court was recently commissioned in Linden and is expected to be the official venue for the event annually.

The Inaugural Victory Valley Easter Basketball Tournament was officially launched on Sunday, April 3rd where a total of three teams in the under 18 category and three teams in the over 18 categories competed for trophies and medals.

The teams that competed in the first-ever Victory Valley Easter Basketball Tournament were awarded trophies for first place in each category and medals of participation, which was provided by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Guyana.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hugh Todd was accompanied by Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Guyana Guo Haiyan and Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Office for Investment Dr Peter Ramsaroop in launching the event.

The Basketball Court was rehabilitated after a commitment that was made by Minister Todd when he visited the area in 2021.

The basketball court will serve the community of Victory Valley in Wismar, which has approximately 800 residents.

The basketball court is just one of the many sports spaces that are being rehabilitated and developed across Guyana, to encourage and promote youth to harness their skills and talents.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Junior is currently constructing three multi-sport facilities across Guyana, one of which is being built in Linden.

The residents of the area, especially the youths, were elated and welcomed the tournament and expressed their gratitude for the new basketball court. (DPI)
