Berbice teacher dies in early morning accident



A teacher attached to the Lower Corentyne Secondary School is the latest road fatality in Region Six after he lost control of his motor car and collided with a utility pole, a fence and a shed on Sunday morning.


Dead is 39 year old Sydney Cort of Alness Village Corentyne.


According to information received, the accident took place at about 1:00 hours today at Kilcoy Chesney on the Corentyne.


Sakeena Ally who resides where the accident took place noted that she and her family were in their beds when they heard a loud explosion and immediately ventured outside to investigate.


She said, the family met a horrific scene at the lower flat of their home as the fence of their yard was completely ripped apart, a post from their home and the shed where the family motor car was parked also collapsed.


Further checks revealed that the mangled motor car with the deceased in the yard next door. Persons in the area rushed to his rescue and took him to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead.


MTV News Update understands that the deceased was speeding at the time of the accident after dropping home a friend.


Investigations are ongoing.
