Bail refused for man who stole ducks, chickens, and other items, from farmer

Charged: Raphael Manttoos

A 45-year-old labourer, who is accused of stealing ducks, a pig, and other items from an Essequibo farmer, was charged and remanded to prison.

Raphael Manttoos, called ‘Tag’ of Better Success Public Road, Essequibo Coast, was hauled before Magistrate Esther Sam in the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the simple larceny charge.

The charge alleged that between October 3 -4, 2022, at Better Success, Essequibo Coast, he stole 24 ducks, 50 chickens, a pig, and two bags of fertilizers from Isaac Persaud, called ‘Justman.’

The Prosecutor applied the Administration Justice Act (AJA), and Manttoos pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Prosecutor also objected to bail, and the labourer was remanded to prison. The case was adjourned to November 28, 2022, for disclosure of statements.
