Alleged drug trafficker remanded to prison

Fifty-two-year-old Andrew Morgan, who was busted on Monday by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) with a quantity of cocaine and ammunition, was today remanded to prison.


Morgan of Lot 142 Ixora Avenue, Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was hauled before Magistrate Sunil Scarce in the Diamond Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.


The charge states that on June 27, 2022, at Eccles, EBD, he had 3.278 kilograms of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.


The alleged drug trafficker, whom Attorney-at-Law Stanley Moore represented, was remanded to prison until August 4, 2022.


CANU previously reported that ranks went to the location and conducted a search in the presence of Morgan. During the search, the cocaine, one .32 Taurus firearm, one magazine, and 25 matching .32 rounds were discovered.


The 52-year-old man was escorted to CANU’s Headquarters, where the narcotics were confirmed to be cocaine and amounted to 3.278 kilograms. It had a street value of approximately $3.5 million.
