19-year-old girl slapped with narcotics charge

Accused drug trafficker - Anasia McAllister

A 19-year-old Marketing Clerk was on Tuesday charged with drug trafficking and remanded to prison after a raid of her dwelling place by Police ranks unearthed 17.1 kilograms of cannabis.

Anasia McAllister was brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.


She denied the charge, which stated that on March 26, 2022, at Perry Street, Tucville Georgetown, she had 17.1 kilograms of cannabis Sativa in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.


The accused drug trafficker was remanded to prison until April 19.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that based on information received, ranks from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters went to the home of “James” and conducted a search.


During the search, ranks found two brown boxes under her bed containing several rectangular brown duct tape parcels, which, when opened in her presence, had several leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.


She was told of the offence committed, arrested, and escorted to Narcotics Branch along with the suspected cannabis.


The suspected narcotics were weighed in her presence and amounted to 37.70 pounds, equivalent to 17.1 kilograms.
