Woman, 24, stabbed to death by drunken husband
A 24-year-old housewife lost her life on Monday after she was reportedly stabbed to death by her husband with a broken beer bottle.
Dead is Nikesha Sutton of Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo (EBE). The incident occurred at about 17:00h at Parika.
A Police report said that at about 15:00h, the suspect arrived home under the influence of alcohol, and a heated argument erupted between them.
Following the argument, the suspect left the house but returned at about 17:00h, where another quarrel ensued, which led to a scuffle.
“The sister of the deceased woman intervened to stop the scuffle. Thereafter, the suspect told Nikesha to pack her things (clothes) and move out of the home,” the Police report said.
It added, “Information received revealed that Nikesha had placed some clothes in a bucket and was making her way through a track to her sister's house nearby when the suspect picked up one of the beer bottles, broke it, and dealt one stab to her neck. He then fled the scene.”
The woman was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination (PME). Police are hunting for the suspect as the investigation continues.
