A 19-year-old girl was on Wednesday taken into custody after being found with 36 grams of marijuana at the Bartica Stelling.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that between 20:00h and 20:30h, a party of police ranks from Bartica Police Station was conducting searches on incoming passengers at the Bartica Stelling.

During the operation, a search was carried out on a 19-year-old girl, who is a cook from New Amsterdam, Berbice. A transparent plastic with a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis was found during the search.

The teen was told of the offence committed, cautioned, and arrested. She admitted, saying that the cannabis is for her personal use. The illegal substance was weighed in her presence and amounted to 36 grams. She is presently at the Bartica Police Station pending charge.
