Teen remanded over deadly DeWillem accident

A teen was today slapped with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving over the horrific DeWillem, West Coast Demerara (WCD) accident that resulted in the death of three people.
19-year-old Matthew Ambedkar, of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), was arraigned before Magistrate Seepaul Ali at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plea to the charges.
It is alleged that on March 7, 2022, he drove a motor car in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the deaths of Carlito Gobinlall, 23, Ayube Mohammed, 44, and Kiram Rampersaud, 41.
He was represented by attorney-at-law Koniyo Sandiford and was remanded to prison until March 24, 2022.
Reports are that at about 22:00 hrs on the day in question, the teen was reportedly racing along the De Willem Public Road when he ploughed into three persons at the Sharmila Harrykissoon Sports Bar.
Police reported that no alcohol was detected in the teen’s breath after a breathalyser test.
