The vehicle involved in the accident

An accident on the Le Ressouvenir Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) early this morning has left an 18-year-old male dead.

The teen has been identified as Sudesh Mahadeo of Lot 20 Bee Hive, ECD. The accident occurred at about 01:15h.

According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), motorcar PKK 2362 was involved in the accident, but the driver’s identity is unknown.

Reports are that Mahadeo was seated in the left front passenger seat while another passenger Komal Rewtie, 19, of Bee Hive seated in the rear passenger seat.

It was disclosed that the car was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of Le Ressouvenir Public Road at a fast rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

In the process, the vehicle spun twice and collided with a concrete fence just off the road's northern edge.

Due to this collision, Mahadeo was flung through the front windshield and onto the road surface while the driver and other occupants were stuck in the vehicle.

An ambulance was summoned to the scene, where the doctor on duty pronounced Mahadeo dead. The body was later taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital's mortuary, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).

The driver was admitted as a patient at the same institution in critical condition. Investigations are in progress.
