Taxi driver, fisherman nabbed with 17 grams of suspected marijuana

A 36-year-old taxi driver and a 28-year-old fisherman of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD), were taken into Police custody after being found with 17 grams of suspected marijuana.


The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that at about 22:00h on Friday, ranks while on mobile patrol in Better Hope north, ECD saw motorcar PXX 8447 parked at the side of an access road.


According to the CCU, the men were acting suspiciously. As a result, a search was conducted on the duo, but nothing illegal was found.


However, a search was conducted on the motorcar, and in the ‘gas tank’ compartment, Police found a black plastic bag containing a transparent bag with leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.


They were both told of the allegation, cautioned, and admitted to ownership of the suspected cannabis.


The men were arrested and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station, where they were placed in custody pending charges.
