Jiang Chen, a 28-year-old resident of Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD), is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital, suffering from injuries to his head and about the body after a SWAT pickup collided head-on with his motor van on Monday.

MTV News Update understands that the SWAT pickup PAB 3120 was driven by Mike Millington, a 29-year-old Police Constable attached to SWAT. Chen was driving a Toyota Voxy bearing registration number GWW 7777.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that Millington and two SWAT ranks were on official duty, heading to the Airport to escort cricketers.

It was noted that the pickup was proceeding south along the eastern side of the Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara, at a fast rate of speed, when the driver overtook a motor car proceeding in front of him.

In so doing, the pickup collided head-on with motor vehicle GWW 7777, which was proceeding north along the western side of the road.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles ended up on the western side of the road and received extensive damage.

Cheng’s condition is listed as “stable,” while one of the SWAT ranks also received minor injuries. A breathalyser test was conducted on the drivers and revealed no trace of alcohol—investigation in progress.
