In a statement on Tuesday, the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said the suspect was injured after ranks returned fire on him at about 20:30h.

According to the CCU, the ranks went to Cooper Street, Albouystown, after receiving information of an alleged shooting incident by three males.

When the ranks arrived, they observed the men walking in their direction. One of the suspects pulled out a black metal object suspected to be a firearm from the waist of his pants and discharged a round in the direction of the ranks.

The ranks immediately took cover and returned fire, hitting the suspect to his left thigh. After the suspect fell to the ground, the ranks managed to retrieve the pistol with two matching rounds of ammunition.

The suspect escaped during the commotion. Checks were made at all of the hospitals around Georgetown. Based on information received, the injured suspect went to the Georgetown Public Hospital but left before being treated, the CCU said.
