An early morning fire destroyed the Regent Guest House and Restaurant, located at 148 Regret Street, Bourda.

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said it was alerted of the fire at about 02:55h, and water tenders from the Central, Alberttown, and West Ruimveldt Fire Stations were immediately dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival, firefighters had difficulty accessing the three-storey wooden and concrete building due to its design and the fact that it was heavily grilled.

Notwithstanding, the first and second floors were destroyed as a result of the fire. Additionally, one black tank, one drum, and a quantity of PVC ceiling and guttering were also destroyed due to radiated heat from the blaze.

Investigations are underway to determine what caused the fire. The GFS said the building was not equipped with fire alarms or extinguishers.

“The GFS is, however, pleased to report that there was no loss of life and would like to thank the Guyana Police Force for their support,” the Fire Service noted.
