Niomi Erskine won the Girls Under 12 category of the ongoing Rebel Tennis Club Annual Junior tournament on Sunday last.

The third annual Rebel Tennis Club Junior Tournament, sponsored by smalta, began on September 16 and will conclude in the next two weeks.

This tournament sees boys and girls from each club in Guyana competing at the under 12, under 14 and under 18 levels, as well as in Medley Doubles.

Niomi Erskine defeated Kimora Erskine on Sunday to claim the Girls under-12 title at the Diamond Court.

Niomi was top-seeded in the tournament and outlasted her cousin, Kimora 2-4, 4-0, 10- 8 to win the decisive match.

Notably, Niomi was the runner-up in last year’s event.

It was a close battle between the two girls with Kimora taking an early lead, winning the first set but Niomi quickly bounced back to take the second set. Niomi eventually took the tie break 10/8 and with that cemented herself as the Girls U12 champion.

So far in the tournament, Elwyn Levius defeated Jonathan Jordan and Dequan Boston in the Boys Under 12.

Girls Under 14 sees Malia Maikoo defeat Anastasia Semple in straight sets. On the Boys side, Jose Rodriguez has been defeated by Nathan Denobriga.

Girls Under 18 featured Norella Jordan defeating Erin Tucker 6-4 and 6-3.

Matches continue this Friday.
