Public Works Ministry vehicle involved in fatal Enmore accident

A vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Public Works and another vehicle belonging to a private citizen have been involved in the Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) accident, which claimed the life of Anil Ramanand.


In a statement, the Ministry said that the vehicle was carrying staff who were on official duties at the time of the accident.

“After learning of the accident, Minister Edghill and team visited the reputed wife, mother, brothers, sisters, and other relatives of the deceased to extend his sympathies. Minister Edghill pledged his support to the entire family,” the statement added.


It was further noted that Minister Edghill assured the dead man’s family that there would be no interference or obstruction of this process.


Ramanand, popularly known as “Cake man,” was struck down just after 16:00h on the Enmore Public Road, ECD.


After being struck down by the vehicle, the man pitched a short distance and was seen lying in a pool of blood. His wife, who arrived on the scene shortly, started to scream, “Watch how them kill meh husband.”


The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) has not issued a statement yet on the accident.
