Presidential Guard Telon Perreira, who was stabbed five times by Nigerian national Ikena Chinezie, who stormed State House on December 15, 2022, has been promoted to the rank of Corporal.

Today, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Irfaan Ali, and Commissioner of Police (ag), Clifton Hicken, visited the injured rank at his hospital bed and promoted him.

President Ali praised the rank for his bravery and courage. Corporal Perreira told the President he is eager to return to work.

On December 15, at about 7:30h, pandemonium erupted at State House –President Irfaan Ali’s official residence – after Chinezie approached the President’s security detail at the southeastern guard hut adjacent to Carmichael Street and stated: "I want the President.”

He drew a knife from the waist of his pants and stabbed the Presidential Guard five times before disarming another guard of his firearm.

The suspect has regained consciousness but is not responding to questions opposed by Police, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum had revealed.
