Police still searching for missing teenager – Commander Moore

Missing: Akeem Bissoon

It has been more than two weeks since 16-year-old Akeem Bissoon mysteriously disappeared from his uncle’s camp in Aruwai Airstrip, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

Commander for Division Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) Dion Moore on Monday told MTV News Update that ranks have searched neighbouring communities and surrounding areas for 16-year-old Akeem Bissoon but he still has not been found. The 16-year-old disappeared on June 13, 2022 at around 17:00 hours from his uncle’s camp in the Aruwai Airstrip area.

When asked if the police authorities are hopeful to recover him alive, he said, “We haven’t found him as yet, we don’t know, it’s still an open investigation…police are searching for him.”

Commander Moore said the police are still searching a valley that is nearby to his uncle’s camp.

Reports indicate that Bissoon was last seen on June 14 by his Uncle Andrew Harlequin. According to the uncle the youth was sitting outside his camp when he was cooking.

Harlequin reportedly turned his back for a few minutes and when he looked and called for his nephew, he was nowhere to be seen. Following his disappearance, only his slippers and phone were found where he was last sitting.

His mother, Jennifer Henry who contacted MTV News Update said that Harlequin’s recollection of how her son went missing was contradicting as he first told her he went missing on June 15.

However, he had told her sister and nephew that he had been missing since June 14.
