A city councillor and businessman was fatally stabbed early Wednesday morning while attempting to stop a break-in at his shop at D’Urban Backlands in Georgetown.

The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Kyle Anthony Solomon, who also resided in the area.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 4:00h when Solomon confronted a suspect trying to gain entry into his business.

Authorities are currently searching for the 16-year-old suspect, a school dropout from D’Urban Backlands.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Solomon stepped out of his house and saw the teenager attempting to break into his shop through a southern door approximately 30 feet from his home.

When Solomon raised an alarm, the suspect attempted to flee, but the businessman chased after him and managed to catch up.

An argument reportedly broke out between the two, during which the suspect pulled a knife from his waist and stabbed Solomon multiple times—once in the chest, lower abdomen, left rib, left arm, and left elbow.

Solomon collapsed on the ground, and the suspect fled the scene. The injured businessman was later pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

His body has since been transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is pending. Police have questioned several individuals as part of the ongoing investigation and are working to locate the suspect.
