Police in Region Nine, just after midnight, intercepted motorcar PAB 3824 and found 8,045.4 grams of marijuana and 1314.8 grams of cocaine stashed in the vehicle’s trunk.

The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reported that at about 00:12h, a party of Police ranks intercepted the vehicle, which was being driven by a 35-year-old unemployed man of Tabatinga, Central Rupununi.

The man’s child’s mother and their nine-month-old son were also in the car at the time. According to the CCU, during a search of the vehicle, 13 bulky parcels wrapped in plastic were found in a black haversack in the vehicle’s trunk.

In the presence of the driver and the female occupant, the ranks opened the 13 parcels, of which 11 contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The other two parcels contained a rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine. The driver was told of the offence committed and cautioned, after which he admitted ownership. He was arrested and escorted to Lethem Police Station along with the suspected narcotics. Investigations are continuing.
