Peacemaker, 24, fatally stabbed during heritage event; three teens arrested

Dead: Harry Brown

A 24-year-old man was fatally stabbed while attempting to break up a fight during an Amerindian Heritage Month event at Kairuni Village, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, in the early hours of Sunday.

The victim, Harry Brown, a resident of Kairuni, was attacked by a group of teenagers, resulting in his death.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said Brown attended the celebration with a 23-year-old female co-worker on Saturday evening. The two had been consuming alcoholic beverages at the event when a fight erupted.

Brown stepped in to stop the altercation, but he was set upon by a 15-year-old suspect who stabbed him in the abdomen and hand.

Two other individuals were also injured in the brawl, suffering stab wounds to their abdomens. They were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and are being treated for their injuries.

The suspects fled the scene after the attack. However, police, acting on intelligence, tracked down the 15-year-old suspect and two others, aged 17 and 19, at a house in Moblissa Village around 21:00h on Sunday.

All three suspects are now in police custody and assisting with investigations.
