Overseas-based man, 53, killed in High and Princes Streets accident


Dead: Veda Prakash Faudar

A 53-year-old pedestrian was killed on Thursday following an accident at High and Princes Street, Georgetown intersection.


Dead is Veda Prakash Faudar of Lombard Street, Werk-En-Rust, Georgetown, who recently moved to Guyana from Canada.


The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that the fatal accident occurred at about 18:20h and involved minibus BAB 6045, driven by William Scott and Faudar.


Reports are that the minibus was proceeding south along the western drive lane of High Street, and while approaching the intersection of Princes and High Street, he observed two pedestrians standing on the eastern side of High Street facing west.


According to the driver, as he was about to pass the two pedestrians, one suddenly attempted to cross the road.


As a result, the front left side of the minibus collided with the pedestrian causing him to fall onto the roadway, where he received injuries about his body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.


The man’s body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME). Investigations are ongoing.
