ONE KILLED ANOTHER HOSPITALISED FOLLOWING CORENTYNE ACCIDENT



Speeding on the Corentyne highway has once again taken the life of a young hire car driver while a passenger who was in the car at the time is nursing serious injuries at the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital following an accident on Sunday.


The accident occurred at about 22:00 hours on the No. 63 Public Road, Corentyne.


Dead is 24-year-old Kevin Alert of Kiltearn Village, Corentyne while the occupant who is hospitalised has been identified as 21-year-old Nicholas Johnson of No. 51 village Corentyne. They are both cousins.



Sister of the deceased, Affea Alert who was on the scene disclosed that she was at work when she got the news that her brother was involved in an accident and that he was being rushed to the Skeldon Hospital.


She told MTV News Update at the scene that when she arrived at the hospital her brother was being prepared to be transferred to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital but reportedly died on the way. He was pronounced dead on arrival.


Affea related that the passenger who was in the car is her cousin. Ms Alert said it was her understanding that the two were heading to Skeldon.


The family is devastated at the loss she recounted “the family is trying to stand strong right now because our parents are overseas so I am trying to stay strong ‘til my mother and father arrive”




The father of the injured man, Nicholas Johnson recalled being visited by Kevin Alert who parked his motor car in front of his No. 51 village home and borrowed a motor car belonging to his eldest son with the intention to go pick up a female at Skeldon. He said his younger son, Nicholas Johnson then joined the motor car and they left.


Moments later he received news of the accident and immediately rushed to the scene but only found the badly damaged motor car. The car was reportedly speeding when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then slammed into a utility pole and toppled several times before coming to a halt.


Investigations are ongoing.
