One dead, another critical following Corentyne accident


Dead: Altaf Lalman

Police are investigating an accident that resulted in the death of 21-year-old Altaf Lalman and critically injuring his sister, Asma Lalman, of Lot 481 Block 19 Line Path, Corentyne, Berbice, on Saturday.


The accident occurred at about 19:30h on the Crabwood Creek Public Road.


Reports are that motor cycle CL 8024, which Lalman was riding with his sister at an alleged fast rate of speed, collided with a motor pick-up bearing registration number PNN 4343, which was making a left turn on the Public Road.

The motorcyclist and the pillion rider were flung several feet on the road, receiving injuries on their bodies.


Persons in the area rushed to their aid, picked them up in an unconscious state, and took them to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where they were both examined by a doctor on duty.


However, Lalman was pronounced dead on arrival, while his sister, the pillion rider, was treated and transferred to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital. She is said to be suffering from a fractured hip.


The pick-up driver was taken into custody, and he is assisting the cops with their investigations.
